When someone is arrested and put in jail, they can provide a certain amount of money as a guarantee that they will show up in court for their hearings. This is called a bond. If they cannot afford to pay the full amount, they can work with a bail bondsman who will pay the bond for them but charge a fee. The bondsman then takes responsibility for making sure that the person shows up in court. If the person doesn't show up, the bondsman may have to pay the full bond amount to the court.
